The MONDAY & TUESDAY leagues at Jimmy's Pro Billiards are being pushed back one week due to personal issues. I am sending an email shortly to those that have registered already. This also means you have another week to register for these two leagues, so please register by Oct. 9. The Beginner's Monday league will begin Oct. 12, and the Masters league will begin Oct. 13.

League start dates have been finalized for the Fall 2009 season. We will again try to start a Masters division at Jimmy's on Tuesday nights. Be sure to register by Oct. 1! Start dates for MNSPA leagues are as follows:

Advanced/Intermediate - Oct. 5th - Jimmy's Pro Billiards
Beginner - Oct. 5th - Jimmy's Pro Billiards
Masters - Oct. 6th - Jimmy's Pro Billiards
Open 14and1.com - Oct. 10th - Two Stooges Bar & Grill

I am also pleased to announce the MNSPA will be launching an annual straight pool tounament in 2010 (Minnesota Annual Straight Pool Championship - MN ASPC). More details will follow in the coming months, but all 14.1 league players will be eligible for play in this tournament, and the top finishers in MNSPA leagues will be granted free entry. If you have interest in this tournament, either as a player, league operator, or sponsor, please let me know. Thanks.

There will be another $200 added 14.1 tournament at Jimmy's on April 11th, and one pocket tourney on April 18th. Please check out the events page for more details.

I am postponing/cancelling the Saturday 14and1.com Open league as of today. We have not had the minimum number of signups yet. If you wish to play in this league, please register within the next few days. I need a minimum of 7 players and only had 4 registrations so far. If I get more signups by the 12th, I can start on the 14th, otherwise I will start up again in the Fall season.

Finally, a straight pool tournament in the Twin Cities! Saturday, March 21st at Jimmy's Pro Billiards. There will be $200 added @ 12 players, and only $10 entry fee (no green fees). Sign up at 1:30, starts at 2PM. Please stop by and participate. I'm working getting some larger 14.1 tournaments set up for this spring, summer, and fall. Try to come out and support the game! Also, there will be another one pocket tournmanet at Jimmy's on March 14th. The last one was fun, and only $10! Get out there and play!

The Spring 2009 season has begun! However, due to lack of signups so far, the Master's division is currently postponed. If you have any interest in playing, please contact me. The beginner and advanced leagues begin tonight, and the saturday open league will start in a few weeks. You can still sign up for the Saturday or Thursday leagues by using the form or contacting me.

There is a MNSPA straight pool tournament coming up on March 21st at Jimmy's Pro Billiards. It will be open to all player, but more details on this and a larger state championship to follow in the coming weeks.

In a sad bit of news one of our MNSPA players, Robert Bruce Doerr, passed away on the 12th. You can visit his guestbook and obituary at the Pioneer Press.

The MNSPA is adjusting its structure for the Spring season. We are adding a Masters level division, and altering the handicapping systems and fees. Please visit the Information page for more details. Registrations will end in mid-February (tentatively 2/12/09) so signup today!
The MNSPA is now accepting credit card and PayPal payments online to pay for your registration fees. A link will be provided to you after the registration process is completed.

Well, the Fall Season of MNSPA will begin soon. I have several announcments to make.

1. As of Fall 2008, MNSPA is now sanctioning with the 14and1.com system. This means that Minnesota will be able to send the top 2 players from each division to the National Championship in Atlantic City. I would really like to see MN represented there, and show that this game is growing in our area.

2. Congratulations to the Summer 2008 MNSPA players. The season endured a long summer in the pool industry, and a few hot days. Here are the top finishers:
1st: Joel Stevens $250
2nd: Doug Hanson $150
3rd-4th: Richard Bryden/Aaron Dobosenski $50
High Run of 36 ($50) Doug Hanson

3. Dennis Green is opening a new MNSPA affiliated straight pool league in the Southern Metro area. It will be held on Sunday afternoons at Shooter's Billiard Club in Burnsville, MN. To register for this league, please signup at the front counter or email Dennis at digital_952 (a) yahoo.com.

4. Depending on the number of signups, multiple divisions may be running on the same nights. Our goal is to have divisions of 7 to 12 people playing Round Robin format.

5. The pool industry is declining. Several pool rooms have closed in the metro this year, and I would hate to see any more go. I urge you to get out, play some pool and support the game we love. If this continues, there may not be any pool halls left!

MNSPA is having another FREE straight pool clinic on July 7th. Unfortunately, I will not be in attendance, but I hope some of you check it out.

The two Spring Divisions are nearing the end of the season, so it's time for Summer Registrations! There will be one MNSPL session from June 2nd to August 25th, Monday evenings at Jimmy's Pro Billiards. The Saturday division at Two Stooges Bar & Grill will be suspended until the Fall Season, due to my camping, fishing, tennis, and whatever other activities may be happening on my Saturday afternoons. If there is enough interest in hosting the MNSPL @ Two Stooges on a weeknight for the summer, please let me know what night you would like to join in. If I can get 8 players, I will open one up. The Minnesota Straight Pool Association will be hosting a FREE straight pool clinic on May 19th 7:00PM at Jimmy's Pro Billiards prior to the beginning of the Summer Session. Come join us for this free clinic by Jimmy Wetch. Check out how the league works, get tips on your game, and meet the current and new players. I hope to see you all down there! The season is progressing nicely. There will be some changes for the next season. First of all, there will be a new division that will play Monday evenings at 7:30PM at Jimmy's Pro Billiards in Columbia Heights. Also, there will be a flat fee of $65 that will cover all matches for the season, rather than paying a weekly fee. There is a new contact number (below) and I've also posted a printed ad in MNBilliards.com. Signups for both the Saturday and Monday divisions are due by Jan. 25th, so get registered!

A preliminary schedule has been posted for the Fall 2007 MNSPL season. Please click "Schedules" to the left to view. This schedule is subject to change prior to Oct. 13th, if there are additional new registrations in the next few days. Remember, this first season starts next Saturday, and we are still having a "Learn Straight Pool" event this Saturday, Oct. 6th.

The website has finally been updated, and dates are now scheduled. Fall 2007 season starts October 13, with signups due in by October 5. The league will be meeting Saturday afternoons at 1PM at Two Stooges Bar & Grill in Fridley, MN.

A new website has been launched for mnstraightpool.com. I will be working on adding more information over the summer, hopefully paving the way for a launch in Fall '07. I am still looking for additional feedback. Not all of the navigation links work yet, but the forums are up.
